Situation:

Approximately 1,100,000 Americans will have a new or recurrent coronary attack every year. 450,000 of these are recurrent events, and within one year of an attack, 25% of men and 38% of women will die. The American Heart Association has practice guidelines that will save lives.

These are evidence based and proven valid. Yet the reality is that over half of U.S. heart patients are not managed to AHA guidelines. Because of this, the American Heart Association developed their Get With The Guidelines (GWTG) program. If implemented nationwide, the coronary artery disease module, GWTG-CAD, could save up to 80,000 lives each year. To facilitate this, awareness and implementation of GWTG-CAD needs to be instituted in every hospital possible.

Solution:
  • NMG developed the first interactive educational CD-ROM for GWTG-CAD that offers continuing educational credits.
  • 20,000 CDs were distributed to hospital-based healthcare providers across the nation.
  • CD users may obtain CME or CE credits instantly upon successful completion of the online course.

Impact:
  • The interactive educational CD has enabled thousands of healthcare professionals to provide patients with a consistent framework that saves lives every year.
  • It allows professionals to obtain CME or CE credits for career advancement..
